Your Help is Needed on Kindness Day

“A big thank you for all of you who contrubuted to this call.”

Every year we help an elderly couple that lives on the 4th floor of the old Roof68 building in Ashrafieh (the ex premises of Vapa Association). The residents of this building moved away since the Fassouh neighbouring bldg tragedy took place. We were all obliged to evacuate. The couple stayed there because they have no where else to go, no family who wants to take care of them. They are sick, old, hungry and cold.

This year we thought that instead of offering a little we could ask you to join hands with us in order to get more more help for those elderly parents who have abandoned by their children  long years ago.
We would gratefully appreciate it if you would give any amount you’d be willing to give away to help us offer their basic needs.

They are awaiting the results of this call for help as their situation is becoming more and more desperate with time.

Please send us back your reply as soon as possible and remember that on the 13th of November of every year, we all need to celebrate World Kindness Day by helping each other even with the tiniest of gestures.

More information can be provided to you upon demand, as well as the contact info of the couple you are helping out and a planned visit is also welcome so please just feel free to tell us about your wish.

For donating all you have to do is email/call us on the following mobile below, and we will tell you about the simple logistic about the fund collection.

Fall Happenings at Ground68

Like everything around the world we’re also spinning trying to reach out to you, to those who don’t have a voice and to artists from different backgrounds who may be interested in sharing their knowledge. This Saturday Vapa will be launching its illustration workshop at Ground68, followed by other interesting workshops of different genres, starting beginning of November. The schedule will be announced one workshop at a time, if you wish to take part in the illustration class it will take place during 8 weeks, every Saturday from 5pm until 7.30pm. This workshop includes beginners and advanced drawing techniques for all levels, as well as painting sessions. Feel free to register anytime by calling or emailing us. Ground68, is in the same building as Roof68 and it will from now on host most of the practical workshops happening from Monday to Sunday. A book club is about to be created, if you’d like to share your ideas around a round table with other book passionates, you’d be at the right place for it. All you have to bring is a book and a symbolic contribution of 40usd/month. Because the more we read, the more we write, the creative workshop course might be useful to those who wish to increase their savoir ecrire for several purposes, whether writing a blog, a diary or an article in a newspaper, this class will open your creative mind and will connect you again with words.

What is CLP program?

The Community Learning Program (CLP)
Offering you the chance to help others by learning

In recent years, it has been generally recognized that the major reason for most social, economic, cultural, educational, and environmental problems is the exclusion of a group of people from society. This is evident in Lebanon where obviously not all social groups are offered equal opportunities especially when it comes to educational and cultural activities.

The aim of this program is to harvest the extensive experience of VAPA in offering workshops by directing it towards a social cause. We wish to offer workshops to everyone and not just the ones able to pay or the ones targeted by an international aid fund. With the help of income coming from the normal workshops we offer, we will be able to provide a learning opportunity to people who lack it.

Paying participants in the workshops will have the option to pay 25% more of the normal workshop fee and finance, along with VAPA, the expenses of a participant who is not able to pay. VAPA and the trainer will donate the remaining 75% of the workshop fee.

Our program goes beyond the simple idea of offering free workshops to needy people. We believe sustainability is in our internal culture, and therefore always look to the future in every action we take. At the end of the workshops, all the participants’ artwork will be exhibited and sold in an attempt to finance the art equipment needed by the participants who have no means to buy them and wish to follow the skills they have acquired. We will offer socially excluded people the opportunity to acquire a new skill, the equipment to pursue it, and the contacts to make it or integrate it into their original profession.
Along with the above intentions, an indirect goal of our program is to create a safe environment in which diverse groups of our society can meet and interact: from doctors to released inmates, from architects to shoe makers, from lawyers to homeless people…All coming from the different regions and religious groups in Lebanon.

Finally we would like to assure you that all the beneficiaries of the program are selected according to objective and non discriminating criteria…as not to promote further social exclusion.

LARA ZANKOUL’S BIOGRAPHY

Lara Zankoul is a 23-year-old-Lebanese photographer who startedpracticing photography in 2009. Her photoscombine surreal compositions with dreamlike atmosphere, where reality becomesan imaginary aesthetic world. Lara is also a postgraduate student in economics.

LARA ZANKOUL’S STATEMENT

My work is a collection of photographs that mixconceptual, dreamlike and surreal themes. Inspired from classical tales andchildhood memories, I try through photography to give a new vision of the worldby recreating the harmony of what I see. In other terms, the moment is createdrather than caught, and pictures tell stories. They feature anonymous andtimeless characters that are immersed in their own world. Symbols areomnipresent in the pictures, and they trigger a thought in the mind of theaudience. My utmost goal is to show how meaningful a picture can be.
